Down With The Crown is the second EP by the American stoner metal band Acid King. Recorded in San Rafael in early 1997, it would be released as a translucent 10" EP via Man's Ruin Records that July, limited to 1500 copies. Notably, it Down with the Crown is the only Acid King release to feature Dan Southwick performing bass.
On 26 August 1997 Down With The Crown would be released on CD as part of a split with Altamont, the latter band's side known as Wanted Dead Or Alive. It was released while Acid King frontwoman Lori S. and Altamont frontman Dale Crover were still married. Down With The Crown would be re-issued on LP in 2006 via Kreation Records, with Free... as bonus tracks.
The cover artwork features a topless woman playing air guitar with a pentagram drawn across her chest. The identity of the girl was often thought to be Acid King's frontwoman Lori S. though this has been refuted. In an interview with Heavy Music Artwork, Joey Osbourne explained that Man's Ruin Records founder Frank Kozik had composed the photoshoot for a different release which was scrapped, to which Lori stated she'd be interested in using the photography for the cover.[1] Lori would explain on Acid King's website that the model was hired and the pose is a rendition of a Jimi Hendrix poster with him playing guitar like that and the logo in the same typeface.[2]
