Doomed Trinity (2006) |
Doomed Trinity is a tour from 2006, featuring Cathedral with direct support from Electric Wizard and Grand Magus who were both signed to Lee Dorrian's label Rise Above Records at the time. Notably, Cathedral would be touring in support of The Garden of Unearthly Delights, released circa Fall 2005 via Nuclear Blast Records. Electric Wizard would be further touring in support of We Live, released in the Summer of 2004 via Rise Above Records and lastly Grand Magus would be touring in support of Wolf's Return, released on 14 June 2005 via Rise Above Records.
Background[]
Prior to Doomed Trinity being officially booked the tour was originally proposed to go throughout October 2005 as a co-headlining bill between Cathedral and Candlemass, with Grand Magus as support.[1] However on 20 August the tour would be called off due to financial issues according to Candlemass bassist Leif Edling.[2] On 14 October Grand Magus and Cathedral would perform at The Underworld in London,[3] the latter band performing the 27-minute song "The Garden" live for the first time.[4]
Doomed Trinity would be initially announced for late October and November but postponed, with Cathedral touring with Cradle of Filth that December.[5] Dates would begin to surface in the Winter[6][7] until the full list of 22 dates would be announced later that month.[8]
Notably following the tour two of the three bands would experience lineup changes. In regards to Grand Magus, on 23 March 2006 it would be announced that drummer Fredrik "Trisse" Liefvendahl would amicably depart from the band, later joining Abramis Brama.[9] Sebastian "Seb" Sippola would be announced as the band's new drummer that next month.[10] In regards to Electric Wizard, drummer Justin Greaves would be out of the band after a falling out, later founding his own project Crippled Black Phoenix. Shaun Rutter would join Electric Wizard in late 2006 as the band began work on their sixth album Witchcult Today, which would be released in November of 2007.
