Desert Storm are a progressive sludge metal band based out of Oxfordshire, England. Drawing from heavy metal, along with sludge, blues and folk, Desert Storm would quickly make a mark in the UK heavy scene.[1] Garnering critical buzz and touring with the likes of Honky, Nashville Pussy and Karma To Burn among other marquee acts, Desert Storm to date have released six studio albums. Currently, the band is signed to the Manchester-based APF Records.
History[]
Desert Storm would form in 2007, with the founding lineup of Chris Benoist, Chris White, Matt Ryan and brothers Elliot and Ryan Cole. Following the release of a five-song EP, the band would release an eponymous debut album on 10 January 2008. What would follow would be a second studio album in Forked Tongues, released via Buried in Smoke on 10 April 2010, gaining some positive reception.[2]
Following a tour of the United Kingdom alongside instrumental stoner rockers Karma To Burn, Desert Storm would sign with Blindsight Records. Along with a reissue of Forked Tongues, the band would release Horizontal Life in April 2013, attaining further buzz from the likes of Echoes and Dust[3] and Louder Sound[4] among others. A fourth album in Omniscient would quickly follow on 26 January 2014, keeping momentum.[5][6]
Desert Storm would begin touring the United Kingdom more frequently with each subsequent album, supporting numerous touring acts and appearing at all-dayer fests, along with the inaugural Desertfest London.[7][8] In 2013 Desert Storm would tour with Karma to Burn in a string of European dates surrounding Dutch Doom Days,[9] The band would embark on their first full European tour in 2015,[10] closing out the year as support for orange Goblin's 20th anniversary shows.[11]
Following tours and marquee appearances the likes of DesertFest Berlin, Bloodstock, HRH Doom vs. Stoner[12] and APF Records Showcase[13] Desert Storm would sign to APF Records, releasing Sentinels on 16 March 2018,[14] garnering positive reception.[15][16][17][18]
To support the album, Desert Storm would tour with longtime friends Karma to Burn among appearances at Into The Void and The Sophie Lancaster Festival.[19] Following a tour in 2019 with Boss Keloid, the band would work on a follow-up from August - December 2019. Omens would see release on 1 May 2020.
