Death Penalty was a doom metal project active from 2013 - 2016, with members based in England and Belgium. Founded in 2013 and making their debut at Rise Above Records' 25th anniversary event,[1] Death Penalty would be founded by members of Cathedral and Serpentcult. The band's name is derived from Death Penalty, the debut album by Witchfinder General.

Death Penalty would release Sign of Times as their debut 7" on 21 July 2014, followed by their eponymous debut album on 11 August 2014. Surrounding these two releases would be a fistful of shows in Belgium.[2] The next year, to support both releases, Death Penalty would tour Europe with the likes of Lucifer (Whom guitarist Gaz Jennings was also playing with at the time.) and Danko Jones, all the while making marquee appearances at the likes of Roadburn Festival and Dutch Doom Days.[3]

However, following a string of cancelled shows, the project would disband in 2016.
