Damad was a sludge/crust band originating from Savannah, Georgia. Founded in 1993, the band was noted for being a pioneer of the "Savannah Sound" with a mix of sludgy guitars with elements of industrial, crust and a brutal vocal delivery by one Victoria Scalisi.[1] Damad largely performed around the Georgia area with the likes of Corrosion of Conformity, High on Fire, Suplecs, Meatjack,Spilth*!%, Cows, Phobia, Manchurian Candidates and more.[2] In their initial run, Damad would release two studio albums via Prank Records among other releases. In 2001, Damad would disband. Victoria Scalisi would form Karst while the other three members at the time (Phillip Cope, Brian Duke and Christian Depken) would form Kylesa with Laura Pleasants.
Damad would reunite in 2006 initially for a benefit show for a friend. Though there would be intents to follow-up, it would not happen for ten years.[3] In 2016, Kylesa would go on an indefinite hiatus, with Phillip Cope reuniting Damad with Scalisi, Perry and bassist Chade Rudeseal.[4] The first reunion show would be on 1 October 2016 with Black Tusk and Chemical Marriage.[5][6] The following show would be a marquee appearance at Midnite Communion and a show in Long Beach on 11 November 2016.[7][8] More shows were intended but would be canceled, notably an appearance at Saint Vitus Bar in January 2017.
On 2 August 2017, Victoria Scalisi would pass away from cancer, aged 53.[9][10] Tributes would come from the likes of Phillip Cope, Aesop Dekker, Billy Anderson, Andrew Fidler (Black Tusk), Kirk Lloyd Fisher (Buzzoven), and more.[11]
