Crystal Fairy (2017) |
Crystal Fairy is the only studio album by the side project featuring King Buzzo and Dale Crover (Melvins), Teri Gender Bender (Le Butcherettes) and Omar Rodriguez-Lopez (The Mars Volta, At The Drive-In). Teased with singles via Amphetamine Reptile Records, this album would be released in February 2017 to positive reviews, overall an 80/100 score on Metacritic.[1]
The album was reportedly written and recorded in a week, with a fluid and spontaneous process. Osborne and Crover would be in one room working on riffs. Rodríguez-López would be in another working on bass lines, and Suárez would be in another, creating lyrics for demos that had just been tracked. She abandoned her usual, deliberate writing technique in favour of improvisation: "the songs wrote and interpreted themselves." Drugs would be a recurring theme and Buzz suggested a Tales of Terror cover to Teri, which both agreed on.[2]
Two singles would be released via Amphetamine Reptile Records prior to the albums release. The first was Necklace of Divorce (10 October 2016) which featured "Necklace of Divorce" and "Drugs on The Bus" as a 7" (300 copies in three variants, some bearing labels of Red Alpha Royale, the original band's name.). The second single would feature the title track and "Chiseler" on a 12" (250 copies in two variants.). Lastly the Ipecac release came in digital, CD and Vinyl (Black Vinyl, Lavender Vinyl, Floro Pink Vinyl, Clear Vinyl). Special handmade editions would be made for the Melvins' 2017 tour supporting A Walk With Love and Death.
