Charged is the second studio album by Nebula. Recoded in Hoboken in the Fall of 2000, it would be released in early 2001 via Sub Pop Records and Sweet Nothing Sounds. Notably, it's the last Nebula album to feature bassist Mark Abshire and in turn, the original lineup.
Leading up to the album's release a single was released for Do It Now, with "Cosmic Egg" as a b-side.[1] The Japanese release on Sweet Nothing Records contains the bonus tracks "Humbucker" (from the "Clearlight" single) and "Cosmic Egg" (from the "Do It Now" single), released on 12 September 2001.[2] In 2019 Heavy Psych Sounds would remaster and reissue Charged on LP, CD and Digital, the latter two formats featuring "Cosmic Egg" and a demo version of "Giant" as bonus tracks.[3]
The third track "Giant" was featured in the skateboarding video game Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4.
Reception for the album was positive. However, the positive reviews were granted for contradictory changes in genre/style. AllMusic complimented their increased acoustic complexity, alongside improved "trippy background effects".[4] NME congratulated their increase in raw power and a summary of "an album that takes the glib stoner rock soundbite and forces strong acid on its tongue".[5] Conversely, Exclaim! felt the band were "putting their more unhinged and progressive leanings to the side," and opted for a more cohesive set of stoner groove and rock.[6]
