Calling All Cars on The Vegas Strip is the debut studio album by Athens sludge duo Jucifer, initially released in 1998 via Crack Rock Records.
Background[]
While details aren't exact it is presumed that Calling All Cars on The Vegas Strip was recorded in 1997 or 1998 by Jucifer and it's known the initial release was via Crack Rock Records sometime in 1998. "Superman" had been released prior as a 7" single via Crack Rock in 1996 with the b-side of "Licorice" while "Glamourpuss" is a re-recording of the same song on the band's debut EP Nadir. A music video was also made for "Superman".
In regards to the album's sound it establishes early Jucifer in a wide array of sounds ranging from sludge to punk to pop to alternative rock, even one or two songs deviating into trip hop territory. The style of music the band was exploring was rarely touched on by any band in the late 1990s.
Calling All Cars on The Vegas Strip would be reissued via Capricorn Records (Once the band had signed with the label and later Velocette) on 11 January 2000. It would be reissued again by Velocette in 2001, when Phil Walden split Velocette off from Capricorn. Notably the reissued editions omit several of the samples as they would not be cleared in time for the reissue.
