CHRCH (Formerly Church) are a psychedelic doom metal band based out of Sacramento, California. Forming in 2013 as church before re-working the name two years later as CHRCH as they would release two studio albums and attain a notoriety with their epic, lengthy songs and occult presence minus the pageantry and gimmicks, in regards to letting the music speak for itself.

Since forming CHRCH have toured all over North America and Europe and are currently signed to Neurot Recordings.

History[]

CHRCH would form in 2013 initially as Church, with the founding lineup of Eva, Chris, Ben, Matt and Shann. Quickly building a name for themselves the quintet performed frequently in the California area and working towards a debut album, working with Patrick Hills at Earthtone Studios in Rocklin, CA. Unanswered Hymns would see digital release on 9 April 2015 to positive reception from several critics.[1] However the physical release would garner somewhat of a delay as an Australian band named The Church would threaten a lawsuit citing claims of claim of ‘willful infringement’ and ‘unfair competition’. Thus the band would be re-christened as CHRCH that July.[2]

The band's first performance as CHRCH would take place on 16 August 2015, supporting Northless and Primitive Man as a prelude to a short California tour.[3] Physical issues of Unanswered Hymns would see release in the fall[4] as the album would garner further critical acclaim.[5][6][7] CHRCH would embark on a heavy touring cycle supporting Unanswered Hymns the next year, including a Spring tour of Europe surrounding appearances ad Doom Over Leipzig and Roadburn Festival followed by two tours of North America which would include appearances at New Mexico Dooms Day and Psycho Las Vegas.[8]

Following a split release with Fister, CHRCH would sign with Neurot Recordings for their second studio album,[9] returning to Earthtone Studios in Rocklin. Light Will Consume Us All would see release on 11 May 2018 to positive reviews from several publications.[10][11][12][13][14] CHRCH would extensively tour Europe and North America in support of Light Will Consume Us All through 2018 and 2019.

In October 2019 CHRCH would state that a third album was in the works.[15]
