Brother Ares was a two-piece sludge/noise band originating from Nashville, Tennessee, USA. With guitarist Blake and drummer Gore handling screaming vocals amid a sludgy, doomed atmosphere this duo composed heavy, noisy sounds. The band also had tendencies to deviate into noise and experimental territories as well. From their birthing in late 2011 the band managed to put out a couple releases and performed with a host of different bands in the Tennessee area.

History[]

Brother Ares formed in late 2011 by the duo of Blake and Gore. Sometime after the duo began performing live, their earliest known live performance being 10 February 2012 at the Heiman House (With Assnuke, Exorcism, Fenris and Dex).[1] Throughout the year of 2012 the band would perform regular shows in the Nashville area with the likes of Billy Castro, Biipiigwan,[2] Black Tar Prophet,[3] Archdruid, Demeanor and Bell Witch[4] among others. In that time the band managed to release their first EP entitled Devourer of Worlds on 26 April 2012.

In the summer of 2013 the band followed with an album originally intended for a split cassette entitled Amplifier As God AS Amplifier[5], with a planned album in the works. The band performed with a host of bands surrounding the second EP and intended album over 2013 and 2014 with the likes of Sons of Tonatiuh, Shroud Eater,[6] Hivelords,[7] Beast In The Field,[8] Windhand,[9] Minsk,[10] The Body and Trophy Wife among a host of other bands.[11]

The band's last performance to date was on 15 February 2015 at The End with Lord Dying, Tijuana Goat Ride and Sheep Shifter.[12] A side project known as Cosmic Yawn formed in the meantime though eventually Conley would move to Louisville, Kentucky in 2016, ending the band.

Conley would re-release Amplifier As God As Amplifier on the droneroom bandcamp on 2 February 2024.[13]
