Bozeman's Simplex was a stoner rock band based out of Örnsköldsvik, Sweden. Active between late 1992 and 2000, this quartet released an EP and an album in their eight-year tenure, aside from a handful of reunion sets. Bozeman's Simplex was influenced by Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin and The Black Crowes.
Biography[]
Bozeman's Simplex was born in november 1992 in the little town of Örnsköldsvik in the middle of Sweden. Founded by Anders and Patrik, soon joined by Mikael and Jonas on drums. In the wake of Big Rad Machine, The Rites Of Spring and Known As Q. Anders met Patrik and Flacke was going to play the drums. The intention was to play covers of Jimi Hendrix songs. They soon found out that they needed a bassist. Mikael was phoned up and recruited. After a while Jonas came into the picture as a new drummer and they made their first stage appearance, some days before new year's eve the same year.
During the years the line-up changed with drummers coming and going and the band changed direction musically, along with several gigs in 1993. From a Hendrix/Black Crowes-style to a more heavy type of music as played by Black Sabbath, Grand Funk and Monster Magnet. Finally when Johan came into the band, they got a steady pacekeeper behind the drums. The cassette-album Stoneheads and Other Freak Songs was recorded and released in early 1994, just after their appearance on the Musikhuset - So Far So Good compilation album. In late 1995 some new songs were recorded at the Straight From the Wood studio in their hometown of Örnsköldsvik. Which resulted in a very very limited edition CD single and caught some attention in Swedish radios. A demo recording made during some days in the spring of 1997 also caught some attention in Swedish radio.
The second demo featuring "Head First" also caught the ears of Leif Edling of Candlemass fame. He had plans to start a new record company and needed some new sounds to release. His choise was Bozeman's Simplex. After some time, four ten inch vinyl EP's were released on the new Froghouse label. One of those was Hyperdrive, released in late 1998 and featuring three songs. The first 500 copies sold out in a couple of months and a second pressing was made. By this time Johan had quit the band because of an injured shoulder and Henrik moved in behind the drums. Bozeman's Simplex got in contact with an american label in late 1999 and there was talk about making a full length cd, but that never came through. Mostly because of economical issues. In 2000 Anders got tired of living in the northern part of Sweden and moved south and Henrik felt the same. This led to far too long distances to travel for rehearsals and Bozeman's Simplex would disband, barring a reunion gig in 2003. A release of the live gig was proposed along with rehearsing new songs but ultimately nothing came to fruition.[1]
