Boston Strangler is the third EP by the Japanese doom metal band Church of Misery. It would be initially released in 2002 via the Finnish label Kult of Nihilow, limited to 415 copies numbered in silver ink on the reverse of the sleeve. A CD version with a bonus track would be released the next year, also limited and currently out of print.
Notably the Boston Strangler EP features three different guitarists between it's five tracks, considering the CD version. "Boston Strangler", "El Topo" and "I, Motherfucker" would be the first recordings to feature guitarist Takenori Hoshi, recorded at On Air Studio in Shinjuku circa July & August 2002. "Candy Man", the CD bonus track, would feature Tomohiro Nishimura on guitar and was recorded in 2001, possibly in the same sessions as Master of Brutality. Lastly "Invocation of My Demon Brother" is an improvised live jam with one-time guitarist Osamu Hamada, recorded live at Kouenji 20000 Volt Club, Tokyo, Japan on 9 September 2001.
"Candy Man", "El Topo" and "I, Motherfucker" would all be re-recorded for the band's 2006 album The Second Coming, the latter song recorded as a full song (Though the fifty-second reprise would appear at the end of the album). "Boston Strangler" and this version of "Candy Man" would appear on the 2011 reissue of Master of Brutality as bonus tracks.
