Born Too Late is a split album between Canadian doom/stoner metal band Sheavy and Japanese doom metal band Church of Misery. The name of the album is adopted from the Saint Vitus album Born Too Late while the cover itself adopts elements from Vol. 4 and Born Again by Black Sabbath.
Background[]
Game Two Records expressed interest in 1997 to put out a split album and ultimately secured Sheavy and Church of Misery for the release. Church of Misery's recordings were done in April 1997 not long after the lineup of Mikami, Shimizu, Nishimura and Chow were established and are the first recordings of the band with serial killers as subject matter. It's also notable as the third release by Church of Misery after the Taste The Pain EP and the Doomsday Recitation compilation. All four songs would be reissued on the Early Works Compilation. Notably the cover of "War Is Our Destiny" by Saint Vitus was intended to appear on a tribute album entitled A Timeless Tale, but said tribute album would be scrapped.
Destiny's Rainbow '96 and War Pigs were recorded and performed by Sheavy at Nickel Soundworks in July 1996, the former being an earlier version of a song released on The Electric Sleep released the same year on Rise Above Records. The remaining four tracks come from the Sheavy live split cassette with Afterforever entitled Live at the Loft, recorded on 19 July 1995.
2000 copies exist of this now out-of-print split. The first 1000 copies had the cover in black ink while the second pressing in another 1000 copies depict the album cover in purple ink.
