Black Seal are a psychedelic rock band originating from Delray Beach, Florida. They are noted for mixing elements of punk, doom, proto-metal, and garage rock with psychedelia.[1][2][3]
History[]
The core duo of guitarist and vocalist Astaroth Crowley and drummer Robb Erwin formed in 2011, expanding to a trio for live shows the following year with the addition of bassist Thomas Beals. Black Seal released their first single “On This Day You Lose Faith” in 2012.[4] In 2013, their self-released debut EP Pyre followed. Pyre was featured in Heavy Planet’s "Sunday Sludge" column and a song from the EP, “Conestoga Breaks Down”, was included in several heavy psych/stoner rock compilations.[5][6] That same year however, Black Seal went on hiatus as Astaroth Crowley relocated to Portland, Oregon.
In 2019, founding members Astaroth Crowley and Robb Erwin reunited as a duo to record new Black Seal material for the EP Sati.[7]
