Black Manta are a doom metal/stoner rock band hailing from various parts of Maryland and thus, one of many bands in the Maryland/D.C. doom scene. Active initially from 1994 - 2006 with two reunion performances, the band released one EP along with a few side releases, sharing the stage with many notable doom acts in their tenure.
Black Manta would refer to their music as Bomb Rock.
History[]
Black Manta's beginnings date back to 1994 with Halloway, Skull and Horino as the founding members. In their first run the band managed to self-release one demo in 1997, Halloway handling guitar and bass in the studio. The band would briefly break up in 1999 but reform in 2000 as a four-piece with Walter White on bass. The band released a demo album in 2001 and managed to share the stage with many staples of the doom scene such as Place of Skulls and Death Row among others. At some point Tommy Carr would leave the group with Joe Hasselvander taking over on drums. This lineup would record an EP and release it in 2004 as Fuck Them All But Six. However by late 2005 the band would quietly disband.
Black Manta had reformed in 2013 with the lineup of Halloway, Skull, White and Carr, performing a handful of shows and reforming once more for The Maryland Doom Fest in 2017.
