Black Age Blues is the third studio album by the California doom metal band Goatsnake. The band's first album in nearly fifteen years, it would be recorded in Nashville circa 2014 some years after the band's reunion in 2010. Along with featuring an archival portion of "The River" from 2000's Flower of Disease with Petra Haden and Mathias Schneeberger, David Pajo (Slint, Bush League, Dead Child, etc.) appears as a guest on the opening track. Legendary keyboardist Bernie Worrell (Parliament, Funkadelic) was originally planned to appear on the album's title track but was unable to participate due to scheduling conflicts.
Black Age Blues would be released by Southern Lord Records on 2 June 2015 on CD and Vinyl, the latter featuring a different track order and two bonus tracks. The two vinyl-only bonus tracks would later be released on Southern Lord's bandcamp on 5 June 2020 as part of Bandcamp Fridays.[1]
Black Age Blues would attain positive reception, with a score of 80/100 on Metacritic.[2] Black Age Blues would rank #9 on both The Obelisk's Top 30 Albums of 2015[3] and on their reader's poll.[4]
