Biography[]

Cordell's earliest known bands would be largely based in punk rock, namely the California bands De-Con and LAB. De-Con would form in the 1990s, seeing Cordell perform with Herb Liedau (Darkside), Brian Maloney (Unsound) and Brant Bjork (Kyuss, Fu Manchu, Mondo Generator, Vista Chino). The quartet released Balls For Days in 1995, on Bjork's first label El Camino. Cordell had also played in the band LAB from 1993 - 1998 alongside Mike Neider and Bill Torgerson, notably of the pioneering West Coast hardcore band BL'AST!.

Cordell would notably fill in for Yawning Man for the band's first ever European tour in 2005, when Mario Lalli had moved and was unable to perform the tour or recordings on the next EP. On 26 June 2005, Pot Head would be released on Alone Records, featuring four songs and the only release to date with Billy Cordell on bass. Yawning Man would follow into the next February/March with a more extensive European tour, a seventeen-date jaunt through Germany, Switzerland and Belgium, with Lalli returning some time after. Billy Cordell and Greg Seanz would notably take over in the rhythm section around 2012 but no information of the band touring or performing that year is available. Cordell would also perform as a live bassist in 2008 for the desert rock band Ten East, alongside Gary Arce, Bill Stinson and Bryan Giles (Red Fang).

In 2009 Cordell would join perform bass on the Brant Bjork solo album Gods & Goddesses. Bjork and Cordell, along with Brandon Henderson and Giampaolo Farnedi, would tour throughout 2010 in support of the record, up to the Spring of 2011.

In 2012 Billy Cordell would fill in on bass for Kyuss Lives! from March to November 2012 when Nick Oliveri would be unavailable. Notably Cordell would also perform live bass for the desert rock band Unsound for a handful of reunion shows, taking over for the late Britt Killen.

In 2015 Cordell would join a new project known as The Whizards, who would release an eponymous debut album in 2017.

In 2022 it would be announced that Billy Cordell would re-join Yawning Man on bass, with intents of touring and recording a new album with the band. On 30 March 2023 the band's sixth album Long Walk of The Navajo would be announced, set for a June 2023 release.
