Below were a doom/sludge band from Gray, Kentucky.

History[]

Initially the band was known as Holy Mountains before opting for the name Below, which the band would adopt the new name by 2010 in time for a short tour with Ohlm and Sons of Tonatiuh. Along with a string of shows in 2009 and 2010 the band would release a studio album in St. Anthony's Fire on 21 October 2010. In December 2010, Chris Clough would be replaced by Travis Marcum following a drone set with Merkaba and Everyone Lives Everyone Wins where the former quit the band the night before.[1]

Sporadic shows would follow in Lexington, Louisville (Notably a show at iconic store Ear X-Tacy with Thou and Seidr.[2]) and Tennessee throughout 2011. A tour with Everyone Lives Everyone Wins and an appearance at Boomslang opening for Cough followed.

In 2012, the band would perform at Cosmic Charlie's (With Tombstalker, Sonic Altar and Jucifer) before a weekend tour with Tombstalker in Tennessee and a tour in the summer with Hellbender. Their last show was 18 August 2012 at Castle Greyskull in Lexington, a house show.[3] In 2013, Nicholson would form Motherplant later that year with Travis Marcum later joining. Eventually both Nicholson and Marcum would found Hawkbill in 2016.
