Beggar are a sludge quartet that formed in 2012. Initially forming in Bristol, England before re-locating to London this band is described on APF Records' page as "In parts Bongzilla, in parts Kyuss; at points approaching the blackened and at others leaning towards blues; as a whole uniquely their own.". Following a series of self-released EPs Beggar would release their debut album in 2020 along with touring the United Kingdom.
History[]
Beggar would have their start in Bristol, England circa 2012 with their earliest known show on 7 September at The Croft.[1] The band would perform regular gigs, releasing two demos over the next two years (Beggar I on 31 May 2013 and Beggar II on 20 May 2014) and building a buzz in the Bristol scene.[2] Two more EPS would follow in 2015 in Shingles + House of Man (30 July 2015) and Birchwood (6 December 2015), all the while performing marquee shows with the likes of Slabdragger, Elephant Tree, Mastiff, Diesel King and many more.[3][4] Another EP in Caramel Cigarette would drop on 26 May 2016, the last with original drummer Ant Adeane.
At some point in the 2010s the band would re-locate to London and secure a new drummer in Bertrand Sautier. Recording and mixing at Bear Bites Horse Studio in London circa Spring 2017, Chainscraper would see release on 19 May 2017 to praise from the likes of The Sludgelord,[5] Ave Noctum[6] and Collective Zine[7] among others. The band built up to bigger shows and all-dayer fests in the meantime.[8][9][10]
Beggar would tour the United Kingdom in 2019 appearing at various festivals such as Bloodstock, Doomlines, Sludgefest and Revenge of The End of The World while sharing the stage with the likes of Dead Witches, Cybernetic Witch Cult, The Obsessed, Alunah, Desert Storm, The Body and many more.[11] Signing to the Manchester-based APF Records Beggar would release a digital single in Nine Atmospheres on 15 November 2019 while announcing that work had begun on a debut album.[12] Recorded and Mixed in July 2019 by Wayne Adams at Bear Bites Horse and Mastered that August by James Plotkin, Beggar's debut album Compelled To Repeat would be released on 3 April 2020. Compelled To Repeat would attain praise by a wide range of publications such as The Sludgelord,[13] Blabbermouth,[14] The Sleeping Shaman,[15] Distorted Sound Magazine,[16] Dead Press[17] and Sleeping Village Reviews[18] just to name a few.
