Back From The Abyss is the eighth studio album by the English heavy metal band Orange Goblin. Released in October 2014 and recorded again with Jamie Dodd, it serves as a follow-up to the critically acclaimed 2012 album A Eulogy For The Damned and overall similar in general sound. Back From The Abyss would peak at #98 on the UK charts.
Background[]
Following extensive world touring in support of the 2012 album A Eulogy For The Damned, Orange Goblin would begin work on an eighth album in early 2014. Returning again to The Animal Farm with producer Jamie Dodd, the band would record largely in April and June, though bassist Martyn Millard would cite the album's production as "rushed".[1] In an intervieww with New Noise, Ben Ward would describe the album as "not a million miles from the last album, but I think the songs are stronger and better written, and I believe the production is better as well.".[2] A song from the same sessions in The Test would see release in the January 2015 issue of Decibel Magazine as part of their flexi series.
Back From The Abyss was released on 6 October 2014 in Europe and 7 October 2014 in the United States under the label Candlelight Records. The album would attain positive reception from numerous publications such as Blabbermouth (8.5/10),[3] Metal Injection,[4] The Obelisk,[5] Louder Sound,[6] Echoes and Dust,[7] Metal Observer[8] and Angry Metal Guy[9] among others.
