As A Dog Returns is the fourth studio album by the Knoxville, Tennessee doom metal band Place of Skulls. Working again with longtime producer Travis Wyrick, As A Dog Returns would be released in the United States via Giddy Up Records on 9 November 2010 and on 4 April 2011 via Volcom Entertainment in Europe. The band would tour Europe that April alongside The Gates of Slumber to support the album.[1] The album also featured a cover of "Desperation" by Steppenwolf.

In regards to the recording of the album it had Abney, Griffin and Tomaselli reunite after Abney and Griffin had been dealing with personal issues a couple years prior. However the band would start jamming again in late 2009 and reached out to Travis Wyrick to record. However with only January opened up on his recording schedule the band would go into the studio with half the songs written and compose the rest of it "on a wing and a prayer" though the spontaneity of the recording sessions was something Griffin would come to appreciate.[2]

As A Dog Returns would see praise from several publications such as Angelic Warlord (8.5/10),[3] Metal Underground (4/5),[4] Metal Storm (9.3/10),[5] Steff Metal,[6] The Obelisk[7] and Exclaim!.[8]
