Anderwelt combines different metal genres with a classical cello like no other music group, with descriptions ranging from „a deeply atmospheric blend of metal“ to „heavy soundscapes full of details, ideas, and technical sophistication“.
Founded in 2013 in Linz/Austria by former members of well-known local bands, they released their debut album „Schattenlichter“ in 2015, a composition which demonstrated the formation’s search for yet unknown sounds – not an easy task given the richness of heavy metal music today. However, since the more recent releases „Trinity of Decay“, an awarded music short film, and the new, breath-taking album „2084“ (Electric Fire Records), it has become clear that the search was successful. The album received positive reviews overall, where critics praised how the group perfectly manages „dystopic and extreme contradictions“ with a mixture of „fast and ambient riffs, classical clean and distorted cello sounds, clean and screaming vocals“ towards a majestic album experience. Both the original release of 2084 as well as a series of new videos to be presented in a cinema, unfortunately, fell into country-wide lockdowns due to the COVID pandemic. Still, this was no reason for the band to substantially postpone their releases – while „2084“ was presented as successfully over zoom, the upcoming single/video release of the song „TRUE“ will appear on video and social media platforms exclusively. Asked if the band can afford to publish important work without a stage performance the response was: „we want to give our fans the best even in depressing times. And beyond that, our performances will always provide some additional thrill that can only be experienced in a live setting“...
