Abbotoir were an Irish doom metal band from Belfast, Northern Ireland formed in January 2013. The band originally consisted of bassist Adam "_" Miles, guitarists Jamie "J" Scott and Chris "[]" McQuillan and vocalist David "D" Bradley. Drummer George "432" Redpath joined the band as the drummer in 2014. After the release of their debut album MCMXV in August 2013, they all left the band, leaving Miles the sole member ever since. In 2017, after the release of the fourth album LXI, Miles decided to dissolve the band, scrapping the idea for a new Abbotoir track or album.
The project was known for its lengthy songs, most of which clocked in at over 20 minutes in length, with the exception of the XLI demo which clocks in at only 18 minutes.
Musical style[]
The style of doom metal that Abbotoir played was a mix of utterly slow riffs with industrial and noise elements, which seems rare for a funeral doom metal band. Sven Mihlan of Doommetalfront.blogspot.com classified their debut album MCMXV as "depressive, mournful & quite heavy".
Many of the band's songs exceed the 20-minute mark except "Cutting the Latter", which only clocks in at 18:16. Their third album is much longer, consisting of a single song that exceeds the 30-minute mark. The band's album, LXI, returns to the usual 20-minute song format from the first two albums.
