A Eulogy For The Damned is the seventh studio album by the English heavy metal band Orange Goblin, the band's debut on Candlelight Records. Showcasing a further shift into a heavy metal and doom metal sound, it would be recorded over several months and released in January 2012 to critical acclaim after a five year gap, the longest between albums. Notably A Eulogy For The Damned would be critically acclaimed and one of the best selling albums of the band's career, peaking at #149 on the UK Albums Chart.

Background[]

Following Sanctuary Records' closing, Orange Goblin would largely spend the next few years touring before finally finding a label in Candlelight Records. The band would take a more professional approach with recording a new album in 2011, working with Jamie Dodd at The Animal Farm.[1] Recording would take place on the weekends in the Summer of 2011 over the course of a month.[2] The band would also intentionally choose the release date of 13 February in the UK as it is the same date that Black Sabbath's first album was released.

Upon it's original release A Eulogy For The Damned would be released on CD in a standard edition and a digipak version with a bonus track and bonus DVD, featuring the "Red Tide Rising" music video, live footage and making of footage. On 6 February 2012 the band would release a music video for "Red Tide Rising" presented by Metal Hammer. A second music video in "Acid Trial" would be released on Candlelight Records' YouTube circa 24 July 2012, produced by Scion A/V. Back on Black would issue the vinyl edition of the album in three pressings, each limited to 1000 copies.

A Eulogy For The Damned would attain praise from several critics. This is Not a Scene would praise the album, describing it as "blistering" and "a large dose of filth infested blues-rock that should have most people nodding their head or tapping their feet at the very least.".[3] Scott Alisoglu, writing for Blabbermouth, awarded an 8.5/10, praising the songwriting and ultimately describing the album as "a big burly bag of rock goodness."[4] Your Last Rites[5] The Obelisk[6] and Angry Metal Guy[7] would be among other critics to praise A Eulogy For The Damned. Lastly, when asked to rank each of his prior albums, Martyn Millard would rank "A Eulogy For The Damned" as his favorite Orange Goblin album.[8]
