2R0I2P0 is the eighth collaborative release by the Japanese experimental band Boris and noise musician Merzbow.[1] In similar fashion to the 2016 collaboration Gensho, it features several rerecorded tracks that first appeared on Boris' 2019 album LφVE & EVφL, with every song except "In The Pain(t)" reimagined. This collaboration would also feature re-worked versions of "Journey" (From Unknown Flowers), "Absolutego" (From Dear) and covers of Coaltar of The Deepers and Melvins. It would be released in December 2020 via Relapse Records on CD and 2LP.[2]

Background[]

The title stands for "2020 rest in peace", with Boris noting that "This year was a period of trial for everyone in the world".[3][4] At the time of 2R0I2P0's release, the last time Boris performed before an audience was with Merzbow in Melbourne, Australia on 29 February 2020.[5] The recording was finished in mid-March and submitted to the label in May. The album was completed before NO.[6]

Two music videos were made to promote the album: "Away From You" (19 October 2020)[7] and "Boris" (1 December 2020).[8] A full album stream would be uploaded via Relapse Records' YouTube on 11 December 2020.[9]
